There is no Wifi but you get great coverage on your phone – hopefully you’re not tempted to use it because you’ll be looking at the view instead of your screen.
The bathroom is located to the right of the tent. The toilet is a waterless incinerating toilet. It’s a little different but is very easy to use. Detailed instructions are inside the bathroom. Quite simply you line the bowl with a bag. The bags are in the black basket container on the floor by the toilet. After you have done your business you press the leaver on the right all the way down. The bag will drop into the bottom chamber. Close the lid and press the button on the left. The chamber heats to 500 degrees and your waste is incinerated.
A couple of notes:
- You must use a bag every time you go
- Guys must always sit down
- Make sure the bag has dropped fully into the chamber below
- You may smell a slight burning smell when outside. This is normal and it does not smell of waste at all.
- You must incinerate after every use
- The incineration takes a while and the internal fan runs to keep the system cool
And if you don’t want to venture outside to go to the loo during the night, there is a smaller caravan loo at the back of the tent (inside) if you prefer to stay indoors.
Our drive (the last piece) is newly formed in gravel and people not used to it ocassionally find that their wheels may slip a little. Especially when you first leave the tarmac and also after the last corner. Rest assured that all cars can make it to the glamping site at the top. If you find your wheels slipping just back up a little and have another go with a little more speed.
There is parking at the top and you can usually turn around if you don’t mind taking a few bites at it.
If you arrive at night the sensor lights will come on as you walk down the path. Do take care on the path as the railway sleepers are naturally uneven.
To get inside the tent simply unzip the tent door which is slightly to the right of centre. There are three large zips as you look at the tent from the deck. The centre one enables you to open up both sides and roll them back. The two zips slightly to the right of centre are the door. Once unzipped, roll the door up and use the two straps to hook it up. You need to roll it tightly so that the straps are long enough. There is very strong Velcro next to each zip which is great for keeping the tent warm but it means that it can be a bit of a wrestle if the door is not folded up. As well as undoing the zips you’ll need to under the corresponding floor straps on the inside. Please make sure that these are all re-fastened at night and when leaving the site as they help secure the tent when windy. It is fine to leave the flaps up and / or the door open if it is a nice day and you are going out.
If you wish you can open both sides up. With the door rolled down unzip the centre zip and roll each side up as high as you can. There is a strap hanging loose and you can clip this back into the metal hook. If you are shorter in stature use the outside woven footstool to reach high enough. It’s a cool way to wake up, make a coffee, hop back into bed and admire the view from bed.
The water is sourced from a spring high up in the hills. It is safe to drink and it is so pure that some locals travel across town to collect it. It feeds a tank behind the tent and the high pressure pump ensures you have fantastic pressure. Your glamping shower may well be stronger than your one at home. We are still fine tuning the install so if for any reason you hear gushing water behind the tent (other than the tank refilling) please go behind the tent and see if there are any leaks. If so please shut off the orange lever and let us know. This is highly unlikely but better to know how to shut it off if needed.
Before use, please remove the rain cap from the top of the flue. Most likely you’ll use this to cook pizzas but we are told its great as an oven for pretty much anything (think chicken, roasts etc). You need to heat it first which can take between 60 and 90 minutes. The fire is ready to light inside so use a gas lighter to start the fire lighters. These are organic so will not taint the taste. Build the fire with progressively larger pieces of wood and pinecones until you have the temperature up over 400 degrees. Then let the flames die down and push the hot embers (with the tool hanging on the fence) to one side. It is then ready for cooking. Once it cools please replace the rain cap to keep the rain out. It cooks super fast and a pizza can be ready in 2-3 minutes. You place your pizza directly on the hot stone base inside the oven, it cooks WAY better that way.
Enjoy the outdoor fire but please do not leave it unattended. Make sure it is extinguished before leaving the site or going to bed. Pour water on it if you need to. Do not light it if the wind is too strong. If you need a hose it is on the wall behind the bathroom. There is a fire extinguisher in the kitchen under the sink and another behind the outdoor bar.
There is no indoor oven but we have a microwave, an element/hot plate to whip up an omelette in or pasta for dinner, a dishwasher and a large fridge! Plus the usual jug, toaster, soda machine and coffee machine. There is also a BBQ on the deck.
There is a UE Boom provided. It is named Dreamscape Glamping. Sometimes Bluetooth can be a bit funny. If so, you are welcome to reset it by holding down the power button and volume down at the same time for a few seconds. This will reset it. It will then show up as the name UE Boom.
Whilst the site is fairly secluded please be conscious that noise can travel a long way in the rural environment. Please be conscious of noise, especially loud voices and music at all times but especially after dark. By all means play your music, just not set to the volume of an outdoor concert. We have a Bose radio in the tent.
Dreamscape is located amongst lifestyle blocks and is not a totally remote rural experience. You may hear the odd lawn mower, sheep, cow, dog, bird (you’ll definitely hear these) and trains and cars in the distance. The upside is that you are close to urban amenities if you need them
We love the black baths and hope that you do too. Please make sure that you take care around them and keep the sand out. Please use the bath mats at the rear of the baths to get into the bath so that you can wipe your feet clean before entering. There is a lighter at the rear of the sleeper for lighting some romantic candles.
Please ensure all candles are out when you go to sleep or when leaving the tent. As mentioned there is a fire extinguisher located in the kitchen under the sink and another behind the outdoor bar. There is a hose behind the bathroom.
There is a smoke detector in the tent and in the bathroom. Whilst it has never happened on occasion detectors can also be set off by excessive steam. Having the fan running should avoid this.
